WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for those with higher variance due to the need to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and is accessible anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with an button, which will show an image of the Item Level upgrade at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item level upgrade and current item level, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an Best item upgrader is upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players finish certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades are acquired via various methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item upgrades for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items are from another set of gear.

Crests

The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. It is Best item upgrade to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
