UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors wear out with time and require to be replaced. When doing this it is important that the new handles match the critical dimensions of the old handle.

The uPVC/Composite door handles are constructed of durable materials and are perfect for multi point lock doors that require a heavy duty design. The handles are inline and operate with the same spindle as well as screw fixings so they are easily installed on existing or new uPVC/Composite doors.

The spring lever design allows the handle to be placed and angled for comfortable operation and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested to 200,000 cycles. This allows for the assurance of the quality of the finish and performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever can also be reduced to accommodate more locks. This is particularly beneficial for narrower door frames in which the cylinder is further back. A shortened lever can also be used on doors with a latch that can be activated with the thumb located on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad upvc door handle operates differently from lever-type handles that are found on the majority of doors. The handle can work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are typically employed on UPVC doors with double glazing handles glazing. They come in a range of finishes and variations.

The handles are available in various finishes, including White chrome and Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to rust. This provides the handle with an outstanding performance and durability for the purpose it was designed for.

All of the UPVC lever pad styles for handles are supplied with the spindle and screws which allow them to be put on an existing or new uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm permit a bigger handle, which is often a benefit when replacing a damaged or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers are also sprung, solving the problem of handles that slide out of their horizontal position when they are not being used.

When choosing a replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is important to match the dimensions of the PZ on both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is also referred to as 'handle centres' or cylinder centres'. It is important to match the right handles.

After you have determined the proper PZ size, you will need to ensure that the push and lever pads are shaped to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles that you need for your door. They typically have rectangular or round in design with an internal lever as well as an external push pad.

Most of the UPVC lever pads that we offer are sprung, which means that they will return to their horizontal position when not being used, instead of hanging out and potentially sticking in the frame. This prevents drafts and cold air from entering a property. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles are available in left and right handed versions which allows them to be placed on either side of the doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are commonly found on uPVC doors, but they can also be used on other types of doors. They operate by using a key to unlock a cylinder that then reveals pins which can be aligned with the pins in the lock body and allow them to rotate the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder you choose is essential. It is based on the amount of use your doors and handles receive. For instance, exterior doors require an extra secure cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured with the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that can increase security, for instance, anti drill or anti bump properties.

To make sure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it must be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this with the lock in place however in the event that this is not possible, you may take it off to measure. It is important to not have a cylindrical lock that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.

Most newer cylinders have been designed with anti-drill and bump resistance features that are built into their design. These are designed to reduce the risk of attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in a different direction. This helps deflect the attack and ensure your doors are secure.

There are also cylinders designed to withstand snapping. This is a more frequent method of attack on cylinders, where the break line inside the lock is targeted by a tool that is specially designed to break the front of the cylinder and allow the door to be opened. This is much quicker and less difficult than opening multipoint locks and leaves no evidence of a burglary, which can hinder the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is located inside the base plate of your door handle. It is a spring-loaded solution to bring the multipoint lock handles to their normal position after usage. In the past, a lot of these types of handle didn't have a spring built into them, and without it they can droop or 'drop' once the locking mechanism is removed. Adding this simple component is one of the best ways to correct this issue and is an effective way to keep your upvc doors from getting stuck in either closed or open position, as they aren't always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with a sprung multipoint lock. They won't work with unsprung handles and you'll have to cut a hole in the backplate to allow them to fit. (Please check the image for a more detailed diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement for damaged or missing cassettes on the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are available as one unit. They come with a square cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.
