It's important to keep in mind that recycling should be used as a last option. It's more important to cut down on consumption, and to focus on quality items that can be repaired or reused to serve other reasons.

Rerolling

Rerolling lets players alter the stats of a weapon, ring, or armor. The green button on the item with circling circles is pressed to accomplish this. The new stats will replace ones that were already on the item, so you can't have multiple upgrades on a single item. Rerolling isn't going to affect perks.

Like enchantments and upgrade items, upgrade items can be consumed after being used to roll an item. The cost increases as the Best item upgrader's level increases and is more expensive for high-level items.

Rerolling an item will not affect sockets, ED roll or resistances, it could increase the damage of some stats. Upgrade items can be upgraded the same way as normal weapons. Their upgrade paths are based on of the stats for the base item. However these upgrades can be rerolled to produce more powerful results.

A sword, for instance could be upgraded to a halberd using an item upgrader that boosts the damage of certain stats. This will result in faster attack speed and a higher damage for all abilities of the item, even those that don't use physical attacks. The new upgrade does not affect the base damage of the sword.

Upgrades also change the upgrade process of an item, which reduces your chance of acquiring an unsatisfactory affix. This is crucial for equipment, like rogue gear, that relies on a good affix to be successful in the game.

The upgrader for items is able to transfer substats from one item upgrader mod to another. This mechanic can only be utilized on rings and only on items that are of the same rarity and tier. This is a great method to upgrade an item without spending lots of money.

There is a small update for the re-rolling system dubbed EZ Upgrader which can be purchased using 1 Angel Investors. This extension doesn't offer any benefits in-game however it can speed up the process of upgrading. It also adds an option on the tab Manager's Upgrades that will show the cheapest Cash upgrade that you can purchase.

Sets

A helmet can be rerolled into a shield or sword, and a guard is transformed into an cloth. Rerolling an item won't increase your chances of receiving the BIS, but it will reduce the amount of resources that you use to upgrade.
